PATIENT ADOPTION SHEME

COVID-19 hits marginalized hardest; inequity grows with unemployment, health challenges. Dialysis patients' financial strain worsens. Urgent solidarity needed amid falling donations.

Pandemic's Toll on Economies and Marginalized Communities - A Call for Solidarity and Support

Since the onslaught of the Covid 19 pandemic, it had destroyed many economies and also the social fabric of most countries causing untold miseries, hardship and mental stress that many people are forced to go through.

The vast majority of the victims of the pandemic in Malaysia and all over the world are the people of the receiving end - the poor and the marginalized and this is the greatest injustice of the world today. It is often the poor, the deprived and the marginalized who would suffer most in any conflict or crisis. The economic fallout had ripped into the working class of society from the middle to the lower income group. The poor become poorer.

With unemployment and Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) skyrocketing, thus, leading to long term complications like kidney disease, this leads to Haemodialysis Treatment and it is an expensive procedure.

Dialysis patients have to go through this procedure three times a week and some chronic patients require expensive medication and this call for subsidy / cost.

Undoubtedly, the problem is not that so many people are wealthy, the problem is that so many people are so poor in the land of the wealthy - this calls for us to be in solidarity with the unfortunate and the deprived

During the recent pandemic crisis that lasted a couple of years the inflow of donations was constricted to a trickle. We face the ever-increasing challenge in maintaining the 19 Nos. of HD machines, the rising demand for admission of renal failure patients and not to mention the increase in the price of drugs and essentials for dialysis treatment. Presently we have 37 patients under our tender care where 5 patients are fully subsidized by PKHSA.

Since 2020 we have introduced the PAS, so as to reduce the operational cost but could manage to have two patients adopted.

The adoption cost is RM 1,500.00 per month. Adoption is on a yearly basis.

Since the launching of our website, we hope it will reach some people far and wide who will find in their heart in helping us in this event.

We are exhorted to be persons of love and compassion - to go out of our comfort zones and to reach out to other people and be moved by the cry of the poor and plight of burdened people and address their insecurities.

The ripple effect of compassion, love and positivity can bring people together and contribute to nation building. Done in the right spirit, compassion, love and integrity can really transform lives, build bridges and community of love.
